Age is Just a Number

Age is Just a Number

Our culture places a lot of emphass on maintaining youth. Accepting that one is aging and can no longer do some of the activities they once could can be difficult.  At College Street Heath Care Center, we understand that getting older can be challenging. Developing a positive attitude toward the process will be easier when you reach acceptance. By taking care of your body and educating yourself about what to expect, you’ll be able to maintain a positive attitude.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Consume three meals a day, focusing on fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and low-fat dairy products to get your calcium. Consume less red meat, salty, fatty, and cholesterol-laden foods to prevent blood pressure spikes and/or heart disease. Rather than eating processed or restaurant food, try to cook your own food more often.

Exercise

Choose an exercise you enjoy. Ideally, you should exercise for at least two hours per week at a light to moderate intensity. Light exercises such as walking can help strengthen muscles, bones, and joints.

Stay Positive

Getting older can be something to look forward to for many reasons. You can help others based on your lifelong experience and wisdom. The process of aging may allow you to enjoy life more and slow down. If you have saved up enough money for retirement, you might be able to enjoy learning and traveling. Because you won’t have to worry about work and school during retirement, you will have more time to focus on the positive.
